Hibbert, Oden, and Joakim

My Intro

Hello world. I'm a 21 year old junior at Duke. I created this blog so I could share some of my rants, theories, opinions, and "insights" with all of you. I am going to remain anonymous because I don't want to have to worry about being politically correct; I just want to tell it like it is.When you came to this blog you probably started to wonder exactly who (or what) "The Scrapper" is. The Scrapper is my self-given nickname. I wanted to think of a good nickname but not something obvious and impersonal like Bill Simmons (the Sports Guy). Anyways, I decided on the Scrapper because it’s exactly what I am. I'm the kid who made about 500 moves my first fantasy baseball season with my college buddies (streamlining works and is really good at annoying the heck out of your friends). The next season my friends enforced "The Scrapper Rule" and capped the maximum number of moves at a 100. Then the next season I bid my time without making too many moves during the regular season and then streamlined the heck out of the playoffs (another ring baby). I had Pujols (first round), Soriano (third round), and Reyes (fourth round) all on my team last season. That's arguably the top 3 players in all of fantasy baseball right now (also had Paplebon). I will do anything to win a fantasy league and I have been ruling the league for quite a while. I have now been victorious in four consecutive fantasy leagues (2 baseball and 2 football).

Usually during this time of year the only thing I would be able to think about would be the final four. Unfortunately, Duke isn't there. If you're reading this right now and thinking about how much you hate Duke it's because you are jealous. We have the best coach in basketball (although that bronze medal this summer looks real bad) and we're classy (cough*Gerald Henderson*cough). I'm not going to go on and keep on complimenting Duke because I know we have some serious problems right now. I'm sure I'll spend a lot of time griping about all of our failures in later posts (you Duke haters out there need to check out this clip, it is ridiculous.

Before Georgetown-Ohio State
I think today's Georgetown-Ohio State matchup is one for the ages. Hibbert and Oden, what a matchup. I love Roy Hibbert's game. Hehas been absolutely dominating this NCAA tournament. The thing that really stands out to me about Hibbert's game is his agility. He gets as many many offensive rebounds as he does because he moves his feet extremely well and he is always really active. And he's enormous, 7'2 and totally filled out. Hibbert’s offensive game is also a lot farther along than Oden’s right now. Oden might be a more active defensive presence, but standing at a towering 7'2'' Hibbert looked like an absolute defensive shot-blocking monster against Vanderbilt and UNC).

Halftime thoughts on Georgetown-Ohio State

Less than 3 minutes in and Mr. Overrated, Greg Oden, already has 2 fouls. The illegal screen was a bad mental mistake but Jeff Green’s flop was a really questionable call. Hibbert’s second foul was definitely a makeup call, he didn’t touch Ron Lewis.

When Greg Oden and Mike Conley signed together at Ohio State I thought that Conley was just a tag along. Boy was I wrong. He might just be the best point guard in America. He’s extremely quick, has a good shot, and is great at distributing the rock. Why can’t Duke get a point guard like that? Those are the guys that take Paulus off the dribble (i.e. Eric Maynor and almost every point guard in the ACC) and make us pay.

What is Jeff Green doing? My buddy Billy has a girlfriend that goes to Georgetown and when Duke was eliminated he jumped on the Gtown bandwagon. All he talks about is Jeff Green and how amazing he was in the Big East Championship game. I saw him take over close games against Vanderbilt and UNC but he looks afraid to touch the ball. He had one horrific turnover but he started getting hot at the end of the half. If he doesn’t show up in the second half (which I think he will because he’s clutch) GTown is definitely going to lose.

I’m a Duke fan but there is no reason Coach K should be one of the four finalists for Coach of the Year. He should be a candidate for worst coach of the year. We had the worst offense in America (with a roster containing six McDonald’s All Americans) and he blew a lot of games for us with that four corners hold the ball offense he we played whenever we had a lead with less than 5 minutes left. Just ask the whole state of Virginia, we blew leads late against Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Virginia Commonwealth.

How did Ohio State beat Xavier? I bet that kid who missed that free throw at the end of regulation (Cage) is probably feeling pretty bad right now.

Georgetown-Ohio State Second Half

Billy Packer can predict the future. I usually love criticize his commentary but he called two things right before they happened.

1) When Hibbert picked up his third foul and went to the bench, Georgetown switched to a 2-3 matchup zone and Packer said “Oden shouldn’t look for his shot right now. He should get in position to get some offensive rebounds and they won’t be able to stop him on the glass.” Five seconds later, Oden doesn’t look for his shot and gets in position under the basket when an Ohio State player misses a shot and he dunks it home.

2) Two seconds after he says “Hibbert’s been doing a lot of running for a big guy and when big guys get tired they pick up cheap fouls, better watch for that,” Hibbert picks up his fourth foul wrapping his hand over an Ohio State player when he was going for a rebound because he was too lazy to move his feet.

Good job Billy. How about you reverse your Duke bias? Everyone knows when you were in high school you wanted to play ball at Duke but we didn’t recruit you. I guess you’re just not Duke Material

6:37 left in the game- Greg Oden leaps about 5 feet to the rim for a massive dunk that rims out and Jeff Green picks up a foul.. If you have Tivo watch that replay (in slow motion). That is the most impressive missed dunk I’ve ever seen in my life.

Florida-UCLA

Why does Joakim Noah scream whenever he scores, gets a rebound, or blocks a shot? It’s pretty pathetic. Anyways, this game is over. Florida shoots the most ridiculous three point percentage. I hope Florida loses to Ohio State so Duke can still be the last team to back to back. Florida can win as many games as they want because they are going to have to live with having their star player do this:
