The Duke Football program turned to The Chronicle, Duke’s student-run newspaper, for help. In the Tuesday and Wednesday editions of The Chronicle, the Duke Football program placed ads searching for a placekicker (a scanned version of the ad is below, I apologize for that crease in the middle).

Isn't this ridiculous? Can you imagine any other Division 1, BCS school placing an ad in the student newspaper looking for a kicker? Probably not, but remember this is Duke. Although this is kind of embarrasing, kudos to head coach Ted Roof for trying to search for a solution to our terrible kicking game.
A few players have already tried out and the early frontrunner seems to be Will Synderwine, a Duke club rugby player, who has experience kicking for his high school team. Synderwine will most likely travel with the team to Miami, Florida.
Can you imagine what it would be like if he kicks in the game? A regular student one week, kicking field goals in the Orange Bowl the next?
I'm off to practice some kicks. You never know...

that's embarrasing
whatever dude, there is no shame in admitting a serious weakness in our team. joe surgan and whoever else is on our team is not cutting it, that goes without saying. he is truly losing games for the blue devils. but how else do we find a kicker mid-season other than what is happening now? drastic deficiencies call for drastic measures, and i think the duke program should be applauded for ignoring the breaking of a social norm and doing whatever it takes to improve the team right now.
